Meet our Staff

Meet the Hemophilia Ontario staff!  Whether behind the desk or working out in the community, our group is dedicated to serving our membership through our mission of striving to improve the health and quality of life for all people with inherited bleeding disorders and to find a cure.

Terri-Lee Higgins - Executive Director

Terri-Lee was hired in the SWOR region in March 2007 as the Regional Service Coordinator.  Over 4 years, she focused on developing the region's educational opportunities which included a full day conference as part of the regional general meeting and developing new fundraising events such as the golf tournament and polar bear dip.  It is well known that participating and implementing Pinecrest Adventures Camp is a cornerstone program that provides her great personal and professional satisfaction.  In January 2011, Terri-Lee assumed what would become a permanent position as the HIV/HCV Provincial Program Manager.  In this role, she has been provided the opportunity to work with provincial management and staff, the Ontario Board of Directors and the Ontario Hemophilia Treatment Centres' staff becoming more directly involved in day to day operations.

Her immediate and extended family all volunteer for SWOR.  Married to Jim, she has two great children, Nick and Hannah who provide unwavering support despite the countless hours away from home.  With no affiliation to the bleeding disorders community, Terri-Lee quickly became a permanent fixture dedicated to the members and the cause and is looking forward to continuing to help make a difference in the lives of those we support through Hemophilia Ontario.

Susan Turner - Executive Assistant/Bookkeeper

Susan was hired by the Toronto & Central Ontario Region (TCOR) in 1999 as an Administrative Assistant.  She has really enjoyed working at the local level with the TCOR Board and seeing the members connect and learn at the many educational programs organized by TCOR and Hemophilia Ontario.

Susan has a BA in Geography from Ryerson University.  In her time away from work she enjoys every minute with her husband Don and her young daughters Emma and Meghan.

Alex McGillivray - Regional Service Coordinator, CWOR

Alex McGillivray has been a Regional Service Coordinator for CWOR since October 2006.  She prides herself on planning and implementing local educational programs and events on a dime, but her true passions are working on the Just the Guys Weekend and Hemophilia Ontario Youth programs.  Alex also enjoys working at the grassroots level with her local board of directors/council, and her regional hemophilia clinic team to help create new and innovative programs for their membership.

Alex graduated from McMaster University in 2006 with an Honours BA in History with minors in Psychology as well as Geography and Earth Sciences.  In her spare time, Alex loves traveling, reading, hiking, camping and spending time in the great outdoors with her family and friends!

Teresa Genereux - Regional Service Coordinator, NOR

Teresa has been in the medical field since she was 18 years old and attended Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario.  She started off working in nursing homes, doing lab work, and as a medical secretary with one of the best cardiologists in Oshawa, Ontario.  At the age of 39 she decided to leave her job and move north to be with her husband who works in the mines and to raise their combined families together.

Teresa is not just a Regional Service Coordinator, she is also a mother of two daughters with vWd and is newly diagnosed herself.  In October of 2008 Teresa was approached regarding this position and gladly took on the challenge.  She is a very dedicated worker and truly loves her new role and the new challenges that face her day to day.

Colin Patterson - Regional Service Coordinator, OEOR

Colin Patterson joined Hemophilia Ontario as the Regional Service Coordinator for the Ottawa and Eastern Ontario Region in July 1999.  He has been a dedicated advocate, and persistent believer in providing education and promoting and delivering programs and services to members of the bleeding disorders community.  Youth participation, concerns of our HIV/HCV members as well as the Annual Shawn Duford Golf Tournament for Hemophilia are a few of his pet projects.

Colin graduated from Carleton University in 1972 with a BA in Sociology, he has 42 years of experience working in the delivery of social services programs and services at the private, non-profit, municipal, provincial and federal level.  He currently lives on the family farm and has three grown daughters and a teenage son.

Matthew Maynard - Regional Service Coordinator, SWOR

Matthew Maynard has been the Regional Service Coordinator for SWOR since December 2011.  Matthew's focus on advocacy and community development in the position is served by his experience working and volunteering for hemophilia.  He was instrumental in the development of comprehensive care as the Hemophilia Clinic Coordinator with St. Joseph's Hospital, London.  He was a national research associate with the CHS and McMaster University.  As a volunteer, Matthew has provided leadership regionally, provincially, nationally, and internationally.

Matthew's compassionate approach to working with individuals, the organization and within the community is supported by his professional background in research, adult education, as well as project and business management.  He will take you sailing on Lake Huron, share the bounty of his gardens, or talk with you about the new and growing needs for social enterprises to serve our communities.

Jeenetha Kulasingam - Regional Service Coordinator, TCOR

As one of the two TCOR Regional Service Coordinators, Jeenetha works to develop and implement successful regional programs and events.  She has been with the organization for 1 year and 7 months and has enjoyed learning on a community level the impact of a rare genetic disorder, and Hemophilia Ontario's hard work in meeting its mission helps to support affected individuals and their families.  Her academic background in biology and professional background in teaching is a great fit and contribution to the organization.

She studied at the University of Toronto to obtain an Honours Bachelor of Science in neuroscience and biology as well as the University of Queensland, Australia to become a certified mathematics and science teacher.  Jeenetha appreciates the goals of the organization and works hard to meet the needs of the constituents both on a regional and provincial level.

Robin Nobleman - Regional Service Coordinator, TCOR

Robin Nobleman has been a full-time Regional Service Coordinator for the Toronto and Central Ontario Region since September 2010.  Her favourite program is Just the Guys where she gets to be in camp counselor mode and she loves editing Blood Matters magazine. Robin has a special interest in advocacy, especially concerning HIV/AIDS and hepatitis. The best part of being an RSC is seeing people learn from and enjoy programs she has planned.

Robin previously worked in the field of HIV/AIDS in Montreal, Kenya, and London, England and as a research assistant in a psychology lab.  She has an MSc in Health, Community and Development from the London School of Economics and a BA in psychology from McGill University. In her free time she enjoys travelling, making music and woodworking.
