Hemophilia Ontario
Hemophilia Ontario Youth Group - Montreal je t'aime!

On March 30 to April 1, a group of 10 youth with bleeding disorders from around the province met up in Montreal for a weekend of sight-seeing and learning. Highlights of the trip included a food tour of Montreal, the view from Mont-Royal and an educational session about the tainted blood tragedy. We look forward to the next HOY get together!

NOR Walk-a-thon!
On May 12th, 2012, NOR held its 5th annual walk. We normally hold this event on April 17th for World Hemophilia Day, but due to weather conditions we decided to change it up this year and hold it on our first clinic day in the spring.
With great success, Stephanie Morrison read the proclamation from our mayor of Sudbury. Baby Landon did his first steps to start the walk and took a small break to play in the sand. Baby Landon also raised the most pledges!
We had a great turn out of participants and it was great to see many of the clients get involved. In the past we have battled rain, snow, sleet and the walk has not always been a fun day.
This year we started the walk with rain drops falling and a client telling me I was cursed as bad weather seems to follow me, but the rain let up, the sun came out, and there were many smiles in the end.
To date we have raised just over $2100.00 with pledges still coming in. I would like to thank Chris, the owner of the Value Mart for his donation of water, juice, and granola bars for our walk. We all greatly appreciate your support!
It was a pleasure to see more people involved this year, let's keep up the great team effort!

Polar Bear Dip 2012 - How Much Fun is That?

Brave dippers getting ready to take the plunge!

Brave dippers getting ready to take the plunge!
I had no idea how much fun I was missing. I was told that the RSC has not gone in the water during the Polar Bear Dip before - who knew - everyone but me!
Members from across the region from LaSalle to Woodstock gathered on an April Sunday afternoon at Little Beach in Port Stanley. It was our third annual dip to celebrate World Hemophilia Day and be part of a global action to raise the awareness of inherited bleeding disorders.
Our dippers not only raised awareness (and a few eyebrows) they raised over $2200.00 for programs in the region. Special thanks to our dippers, their sponsors, our volunteers, and of course Mother Nature for just a little light rain and no snow or ice on Lake Erie!

Go-Karting for Guys
On May 12, TCOR held its first event for men with bleeding disorders in several years. The men enjoyed some friendly competition around the race track followed by a discussion led by member Marc LaPrise and St. Michael's Hospital social worker Jordan Lewis.
Polar Bear Dip

TCOR's first annual Polar Bear Dip in honour of World Hemophilia Day was a huge success. The dippers collected over $10,000 in pledges and bravely plunged into Lake Ontario on April 14, 2012. Some even came in costume! Thank you to all our dippers and their cheering squads.
TCOR also marked World Hemophilia Day with a panel discussion on bleeding disorders for future doctors. Medical students from the University of Toronto attended a lunchtime talk to hear from four people affected by bleeding disorders. The students asked many questions and learned about how to improve diagnosis, care and treatment for bleeding disorders. Thank you to our speakers for sharing their stories.
