In response to a need identified by the Program Committee and members, the CHS hired a summer student in 2009 to gather and publish information on three related topics:

– access to insurance (life, mortgage, travel, health insurance for overseas students, group) for people with bleeding disorders;
– federal and provincial government support programs and tax benefits for people with disabilities;
– an overview of the different compensation programs for blood-borne HIV and HCV infection created since 1989.

Below you will find three documents which resulted from this work. The dates of the most recent update are indicated next to each document.

Good news! Manulife to underwrite eligible Canadians who test HIV-positive

April 22, 2016 – The insurance company Manulife announced that it will now accept life insurance applications from people who have tested positive for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the first insurer in Canada to do so.
